Every hosting plan includes a fixed amount of storage, shared by your website files, databases and mailboxes.
Checking
- Sign in and choose Services.
- Open your hosting service - usage is shown against the plan.
What happens when it fills
- Uploads fail.
- Incoming email is rejected.
- Database writes fail, which can make a site read-only or break it outright.
- Software that writes logs or cache files can fail in confusing ways.
A full disk produces some of the strangest faults there are. It is worth checking early when something odd starts happening.
The usual culprits
- Mailboxes never cleared, especially large attachments.
- Backups stored on the same hosting they are backing up.
- Original camera-resolution images uploaded to a website.
- Old copies of a site left in a subfolder after a redesign.
- Log files that have grown for years.
Freeing space
Download and remove old backups, empty Trash and Junk in mailboxes, delete superseded site copies, and resize oversized images. If you are genuinely using the space, an upgrade is the honest answer.
